The Vario 160 is Honda’s newest answer to the sporty-commuter class in Vietnam: sharp styling, a 160-class engine and a flat floor for daily usability. All figures below come from the official Honda Vietnam Vario 160 product page (retrieved 23 September 2026); anything Honda does not publish is omitted rather than estimated.

Engine and performance

Power comes from a 156.9 cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled eSP+ engine with four valves per cylinder. Honda lists maximum power at 11.3 kW at 8,500 rpm and maximum torque at 14.1 Nm at 6,500 rpm. On paper it shares its engine family with the much more expensive SH160i, and the torque figure tells the story: this is a scooter that pulls hard from low revs without needing a premium badge. See our scooter power and torque explainer for how to read these numbers.

Size, weight and comfort

Honda publishes a kerb weight of 118 kg, seat height 778 mm, dimensions 1,929 x 695 x 1,088 mm, wheelbase 1,278 mm and ground clearance 138 mm. The flat floor is a genuine daily-life feature - Honda measures its width at 422 mm - because it lets you carry a box or a crate between your feet, which most sporty scooters with a tunnel cannot do. Tyres are 100/80-14 front and a chunky 120/70-14 rear; our scooter tyre sizes guide explains what those numbers mean.

Fuel economy

Honda’s published figure is 2.20 litres/100 km from a 5.5-litre tank. Real-world figures vary with traffic and throttle use, but for a 160-class automatic that is efficient - see the scooter fuel economy comparison.

Features and safety

The Vario 160 gets front-wheel ABS, full LED lighting, a smart key, an LCD instrument panel, a USB-A charging port rated at 10.5 W (5V - 2.1A) inside the left front box, and 17.9 litres of underseat storage - enough for a half helmet plus daily items. The frame is Honda’s eSAF pressed-steel design, which saves weight; we explain eSAF in a dedicated guide.

Who it suits

Younger riders, delivery-adjacent commuters and anyone who wants 160-class performance with a practical flat floor. Honda’s list price for the The thao version is 56,690,000 VND, positioning it below the SH Mode and far below the SH.

What to check before you ride one

ABS is front-wheel only on this model - understand what that means in our ABS availability guide. Check tyre condition, brake feel and the flat-floor area for damage, then run the rental motorbike inspection checklist.
