Both are modern liquid-cooled Hondas, but they answer different questions: the Lead 125 maximises what you can carry, the Vario 160 maximises how it rides. All figures below come from Honda Vietnam’s official pages (retrieved 23 September 2026); anything not published there is omitted rather than estimated.

The Lead’s case: cargo

The Lead is Honda’s storage scooter. Its underseat bay holds 37 litres - enough for two full-face helmets, the benchmark we use in our underseat storage comparison - and Honda’s eSP+ four-valve liquid-cooled engine with PGM-FI keeps running costs low. An ABS version is offered; check our ABS availability guide for why that matters in the wet season. If your scooter is a tool - school runs, shopping, delivery work - the Lead is the rational Honda.

The Vario’s case: performance and the flat floor

The Vario 160 brings Honda’s 156.9 cc eSP+ engine with 11.3 kW at 8,500 rpm and 14.1 Nm at 6,500 rpm - properly strong low-down pull for a commuter. Kerb weight is 118 kg, seat height 778 mm, and it gets front ABS, smart key, LCD display and a USB-A port. Underseat storage is 17.9 litres (a half helmet plus daily items), but the 422 mm flat floor lets you carry a box between your feet - a different kind of practicality we explain in our flat-floor guide.

How to decide

Carry passengers and cargo in closed storage: Lead. Ride for the fun of it, carry the occasional box, want ABS and the bigger engine: Vario 160. The Lead’s published fuel-and-storage mission suits family use; the Vario suits riders who want 160-class performance without the SH price.
