Before the Vario 160 arrived, this was the sporty-commuter duel in Vietnam: Yamaha’s NVX 155 VVA against Honda’s Air Blade 160. Both are established, widely ridden, and strong sellers. Figures below come from the official Yamaha Vietnam and Honda Vietnam product pages (retrieved 23 September 2026).

Engine and performance

The Air Blade 160’s 156.9 cc liquid-cooled engine produces 11.2 kW at 8,000 rpm and 14.8 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The NVX 155’s 155.1 cc Blue Core VVA engine produces 11.3 kW at 8,000 rpm and 13.9 Nm at 6,500 rpm. Essentially equal power; the Honda holds a small torque advantage lower in the rev range, while the Yamaha’s variable valve timing favours a wider spread. On the road both are quick automatics - our power and torque explainer puts the numbers in context.

Weight and chassis

The Air Blade 160 weighs 113 kg with a 775 mm seat and compact 1,887 mm body - the lighter, narrower, more traffic-friendly shape. The NVX weighs 125 kg with a 790 mm seat, a 1,350 mm wheelbase and a wide 140/70-14 rear tyre - the more planted, more aggressive package. If your day is wall-to-wall Old Quarter traffic, the Air Blade’s size wins; for faster suburban runs the NVX feels more secure.

Fuel economy

Honda publishes 2.23 litres/100 km for the Air Blade 160 from a 4.4-litre tank; Yamaha publishes 2.19 litres/100 km for the NVX from a 5.5-litre tank. The NVX carries more fuel, so its tank range is longer - Yamaha quotes up to 200 km per fill.

Brakes and features

Air Blade 160: smart key, USB-C, LCD meter. NVX: front ABS on a 230 mm disc, Y-Connect phone app, smart key, Stop and Start system, 25 L underseat storage, USB charging. The NVX is the more generously equipped of the two; Air Blade ABS availability varies by version - see which scooters have ABS in Vietnam.

Renting context

The Air Blade is one of Nguyen Tu’s price-published rental models: 200,000 VND per day, 800,000 VND per week, 1,400,000 VND per month, per the owner-verified price list. The NVX is not price-published - contact us to confirm current availability.

Verdict

Choose the Air Blade 160 for the lighter, more compact everyday machine with a published rental price. Choose the NVX 155 for ABS, connectivity, bigger storage and longer tank range on faster roads.
