These are the two most aggressive mainstream sporty scooters currently sold in Vietnam: Honda’s new Vario 160 and Yamaha’s NVX 155 VVA. Both use 155-160 cc liquid-cooled engines, both have front ABS, and both cost around 55-57 million VND. All figures below are from the official Honda Vietnam and Yamaha Vietnam product pages (retrieved 23 September 2026).
Engine and performance
The Vario 160’s 156.9 cc eSP+ four-valve engine produces 11.3 kW at 8,500 rpm and 14.1 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The NVX’s 155.1 cc Blue Core four-valve engine with VVA produces the same 11.3 kW but at 8,000 rpm, with 13.9 Nm at 6,500 rpm. On paper they are nearly identical; in character the NVX’s variable valve timing spreads its delivery wider, while the Vario counters with a slightly stronger torque figure - our power and torque explainer covers what this means in practice.
Weight and chassis
The Vario 160 weighs 118 kg with a 778 mm seat; the NVX weighs 125 kg with a 790 mm seat. The Honda is the lighter, lower, easier machine in traffic. The Yamaha’s extra mass comes with a longer 1,350 mm wheelbase (versus 1,278 mm), a wider 140/70-14 rear tyre and a 230 mm front disc - the more planted, highway-leaning package. Our kerb weight table and wheelbase explainer give the class context.
Equipment
NVX: Y-Connect phone app, LCD with rev display, smart key, Stop and Start system, USB charging, 25 L underseat storage, LED lighting. Vario 160: LCD panel, smart key, USB-A charging (10.5 W), 17.9 L underseat storage, LED lighting, plus a 422 mm-wide flat floor for carrying boxes between your feet - something the NVX’s sporty bodywork does not offer. The NVX is the tech flagship; the Vario is the more practical daily tool.
Fuel economy
Honda publishes 2.20 litres/100 km for the Vario 160; Yamaha publishes 2.19 litres/100 km for the NVX. Effectively identical on paper; both vary in the real world.
Price
Honda lists the Vario 160 at 56,690,000 VND (Sport version). Yamaha lists the NVX 155 VVA ABS at 55,300,000 VND, with sportier SP and GP versions at 68,000,000 and 69,000,000 VND.
Verdict
Choose the Vario 160 for the lighter chassis, flat floor and lower seat - the better everyday Hanoi commuter. Choose the NVX for longer rides, the bigger tank range, connectivity and the stronger sporty identity. Neither is a Nguyen Tu price-published rental model - contact us to confirm current availability.
