Yamaha sells two very different scooters around the same 155 cc Blue Core VVA engine: the premium, hardware-loaded NMAX and the aggressive, value-priced NVX. Both publish 11.3 kW and a 155.1 cc liquid-cooled engine, so the choice is really about everything around the engine. All figures below come from Yamaha Vietnam’s official product pages (retrieved 23 September 2026).
The headline difference: braking hardware
The NMAX has ABS on BOTH wheels plus a traction control system. The NVX 155 VVA ABS has front ABS with a rear drum. That is the single biggest equipment gap between them, and in Hanoi’s wet-season traffic it matters - our ABS availability guide and our TCS vs ABS explainer cover what each system does. If maximum safety hardware is your priority, the NMAX wins outright.
Power and delivery
Identical headline figures: 11.3 kW maximum power and roughly 14 Nm maximum torque from the 155.1 cc VVA engine (Yamaha lists 14.2 Nm for the NMAX, 13.9 Nm for the NVX - the same engine family, quoted marginally differently on each page). On the road you will not feel the difference; how the two bikes differ is weight and positioning, not power.
Weight and size
The NVX is the lighter one: 125 kg versus the NMAX’s 131 kg. The NMAX is roomier, with seat 770 mm versus the NVX’s 790 mm, and its two-level seat is deliberately plush for rider and pillion. Shorter riders will find the NMAX’s 770 mm seat easier to manage - see our verified seat-height table.
Storage and touring ability
NVX: 25 litres underseat. NMAX: 24 litres. Practically a tie, and both swallow a full-face helmet. The NVX’s 5.5-litre tank against the NMAX’s 7.1-litre tank gives the NMAX the longer touring range; published economy is 2.19 L/100 km (NVX) versus 2.26 L/100 km (NMAX).
Price
At retrieval time Yamaha listed the NVX 155 VVA ABS from 55,300,000 VND and the NMAX from 69,000,000 VND. The gap buys the second ABS channel, traction control and the MAX-series bodywork.
Verdict
Choose the NVX for sporty looks, a lighter machine and a lower price; choose the NMAX for dual-wheel ABS, traction control and long-distance comfort.
