Yamaha’s 125 range spans from the hybrid-assisted Gear to the roomy, style-led Latte, and the two make a revealing pair: one chases the lowest running cost, the other the most practical layout. Figures below are from Yamaha Vietnam’s official pages (retrieved 23 September 2026).
Engines
Both are Blue Core 124.9 cc singles with CVT, but tuned differently. The Gear 125 Hybrid pairs its air-cooled engine with a smart motor generator that assists for up to three seconds after launch, publishing 6.2 kW at 6,500 rpm, 10.6 Nm at 4,500 rpm and a remarkable 1.7 litres/100 km - the headline figure of fuel economy ranking. The Latte’s simpler forced-air-cooled engine makes 6.05 kW at 6,500 rpm and 9.77 Nm at 5,000 rpm at 1.80 litres/100 km. How the hybrid system works is covered in our dedicated explainer.
Layout and storage
The Latte is the practical one: 37 litres of underseat storage on a flat floor, 100 kg wet, 790 mm seat and small 10/12-inch wheels for agility. The Gear is the featherweight: 96 kg, 750 mm seat, 17.4-litre bay and 12-inch tubeless tyres.
Price
The Gear lists from 30,437,000 VND; the Latte at 39,077,000 VND for the version shown. You pay more for the Latte’s space and style; you save with the Gear and spend less on fuel.
