If you are learning to ride in Vietnam, the question “which bike?” has a boringly correct answer: a small, light, slow semi-automatic underbone. The Sirius RC is one of the two or three best candidates in the country, and this guide explains why, on Yamaha’s official figures (recorded in our model database, retrieved 2026-09-23).

The machine

A 110.3 cc air-cooled SOHC single, 5.9 kW at 8,000 rpm and 9.0 Nm at 5,000 rpm — the least powerful of the mainstream underbones — with a four-speed rotary gearbox and wet multi-plate centrifugal clutch. The RC version adds an alloy wheel and a front hydraulic disc (drum versions exist); 4.2-litre tank, claimed 2.08 L/100 km, 100 kg wet, 70/90-17 front and 80/90-17 rear tubed tyres, listed at 21,993,000 VND for the RC.

Why low power helps a learner

A bike that cannot accelerate hard cannot accelerate you into trouble. The Sirius’s 5.9 kW reaches city speeds without ever feeling like it is getting away from you, and its soft power delivery forgives the classic beginner error — opening the throttle at the wrong moment. Its gentle nature also means your mistakes are slow, cheap and calm.

Why the format helps a learner

The rotary four-speed with centrifugal clutch removes both big beginner stressors: no clutch lever, no stalling. You shift with your left foot when you choose to, and the bike still creeps, still launches, still behaves if you forget. The light 100 kg mass and low seat make flat-foot stops and low-speed waddle recoveries easy. The first-ride guide covers the full walkthrough; the Sirius simply makes every step easier.

Learning plan on a Sirius

Follow the week-one practice plan unchanged — the bike is ideal for it. Two Sirius-specific notes: the tubed tyres mean a puncture repair is a roadside fix rather than a plug, so keep an eye on tyre condition; and the disc-brake RC version has a sharper front brake than drum underbones, so practise gentle two-finger braking early.

Renting or buying

The Sirius is one of our price-published rental classes (Yamaha Sirius, 150,000 VND per day) — contact us to confirm current availability. If you are buying, the trim-choice guide (Sirius FI versus Sirius RC) covers the version question, and the beginner-underbones list places it against the Honda alternatives.
