Yamaha’s own page calls the Exciter “the most popular manual-clutch model in Vietnam” - the bike that defined the Vietnamese sport underbone. The 155 VVA is the current flagship of the line. All figures below come from the official Yamaha Motor Vietnam Exciter 155 VVA product page (retrieved 23 September 2026).

Engine and performance

The heart of the bike is a 155 cc single-cylinder four-stroke with VVA variable valve timing, four valves, SOHC, electronic fuel injection and liquid cooling. Maximum output is 13.2 kW (17.9 PS) at 9,500 rpm with 14.4 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm - comfortably the strongest engine in this guide’s clutch-underbone class. Yamaha publishes 2.07 litres per 100 km from a 5.4-litre tank; real-world figures vary with riding style, and this engine invites enthusiasm.

Gearbox and clutch

A six-speed gearbox keeps revs calm on long rides, and the clutch is an Assist and Slipper unit: assist reduces lever effort in traffic, while the slipper function stops the rear wheel from locking up on aggressive downshifts. Yamaha highlights a shorter clutch lever travel than the previous 150 cc version. A pass-light switch - flashing the headlight to request an overtake - is a manual-clutch Exciter feature.

Chassis

Wet weight is 123 kg, dimensions are 1,975 x 665 x 1,105 mm, and both wheels are 17-inch with tubeless tyres: 90/80-17 front, 120/70-17 rear. Braking is a single hydraulic two-piston front disc with a rear disc - two discs, unusual in this class. An ABS version is offered (the limited ABS versions; the page shown lists the ABS Monster limited version at 55,200,000 VND, retrieved 23 September 2026 - other versions are priced differently and prices change over time).

Who it suits

Riders who want a proper clutch bike with strong performance for Hanoi day trips and weekend riding, and who value class-leading hardware. Against the Honda Winner R it offers more power, a six-speed box and the slipper clutch; against the Honda CBR150R, a fairing and a bigger tank. All are A1-bracket bikes - see our licence guide.
