Vietnam’s electric two-wheeler market is best understood not as one market but as three shelves, each with its own brands, economics and legal position. This overview holds to verified, citable facts — no sales figures or market shares are invented, and everything below traces to official manufacturer data.
Shelf 1: The swap ecosystem
VinFast anchors the licence-free scooter class with a platform of removable 1.5 kWh LFP packs (Evo, Evo Lite, Feliz II, Viper, plus the pedal-assist Amio) and battery economics of 175,000–300,000 VND monthly rental and 9,000 VND per swap. The infrastructure is the story: V-Green installed its first 4,500 swap stations by mid-January 2026, with 45,000 cabinets planned across 34 provinces and cities. Buying into this shelf means buying range-as-a-service.
Shelf 2: The A1 charge-at-home class
Dat Bike builds the above-4 kW class: the Weaver (5,000 W, 100 km), Weaver 200 (6,000 W, 200 km, with a 150,000 km battery-life claim) and the mid-motor Weaver++ with its 20-minute fast charging at Dat Charge stations. These are motorcycles in law and in intent — A1 licence required — owned and charged like cars: at home, overnight, with the option of a fast top-up on the road.
Shelf 3: The budget e-bike shelf
Yadea’s official Vietnamese price list runs from the XBULL H at 13,990,000 VND to the Velax U at 52,990,000 VND — a broad shelf of small machines at moped-class prices, sold through a dealer network. (Yadea’s spec tables were not readable in our verified retrieval, so no Yadea performance figures appear anywhere on this site.) This shelf competes on price and simplicity, with the buyer responsible for checking each model’s power against the 4 kW licence line.
What holds the shelves together
- Law 36/2024/QH15 draws the boundaries: pedal-assist as non-motorised, 4 kW/50 km/h as the licence-free moped class, A1 above 4 kW. Every purchase decision starts on this ladder.
- No Honda or Yamaha electric two-wheelers exist in their current official Vietnamese line-ups — the petrol incumbents have not entered this market yet, so it is contested by VinFast, Dat Bike, Yadea and the smaller brands (Selex, Ikigai and others — no verified data retrieved, so none is claimed here).
- Three refuelling models coexist: swap (VinFast), fast-charge (Dat Charge) and overnight home charge (everyone).
Reading the market as a buyer
Decide the legal class first, the refuelling style second, the budget third — in that order. The line-up guides (VinFast, Dat Bike, Yadea) and the price guide cover each shelf in detail, and the ecosystem comparison handles the deepest question: swap or charge.
