Battery swapping is the infrastructure idea that makes licence-free electric scooters practical at Vietnamese scale: ride until a pack is empty, exchange it at a cabinet in seconds, keep going. V-Green is the network that implements it, and its published numbers define the experience.

The verified network

From the official VinFast launch data: the first 4,500 V-Green swap stations were installed by 15 January 2026, and the plan covers 45,000 cabinets across 34 provinces and cities. The economics are published alongside: 9,000 VND per battery per swap, and battery rental at 175,000 VND per month for one pack or 300,000 for two — or packs bought outright.

How a swap actually works

The rider’s side is deliberately dull: open the seat, lift out the discharged pack, seat it in the cabinet’s empty slot, take a charged pack, close, ride. Two-pack machines (the Evo, Evo Lite, Feliz II, Viper) can swap one side at a time or both; the flat pack on the bike is the range in hand. The account and payment side runs through the ecosystem’s app infrastructure — set it up on day one, not at the cabinet.

Who swapping suits best

Rider Swap fit
High-kilometre commuters Excellent — no charging discipline required
Riders without a home socket Excellent — the cabinet replaces the garage
Occasional riders Moderate — home charging may be cheaper at low volumes
Tourers beyond network coverage Plan first — 34 provinces is wide but not universal

Planning around the network

  • Learn the cabinets on your regular routes before you need them; the first low-battery hunt is the stressful one.
  • Keep the spare-pack strategy in mind: a pack charging at home plus swaps on the road is the belt-and-braces pattern.
  • Outside the network’s reach, the machine reverts to home charging — the where-to-charge guide covers Hanoi options.

Swap vs everything else

The honest framing is in the swap-vs-charge comparison: swapping trades a small per-exchange fee and rental economics for total freedom from cables. For riders whose weeks are measured in hundreds of kilometres, the cabinet is the reason to choose this shelf of the market at all — and the reason the swap class and the home-charge class (VinFast vs Dat Bike) are genuinely different purchases.
