VinFast’s swap-ready scooters can be bought with or without their batteries, and that single choice changes both your budget and your responsibilities.

How the rental model works

VinFast’s battery-swap models (Evo, Feliz II, Viper) run on two 1.5 kWh LFP packs under the seat. Buy the bike without batteries and you rent the packs from VinFast: 175,000 VND per month for one battery, 300,000 VND per month for two. Swapping at a V-Green cabinet costs 9,000 VND per battery per swap. Batteries can also be charged at home or public chargers.

What rental buys you

  • No battery capital cost — the most expensive component stays off your invoice (the Evo, for example, launched at 19,990,000 VND excluding battery).
  • No degradation problem. A rented pack that fades gets swapped out of the pool; the operator carries the ageing cost that would otherwise land on your resale value.
  • Swap-and-go convenience. Flat pack out, full pack in, under a minute at any cabinet.

What buying buys you

  • No monthly fee. If you keep the bike for years, rental payments eventually exceed a purchased pack’s cost.
  • Independence from the swap network: charge at home and the battery is simply part of the bike.
  • Resale includes the battery — buyers of owned-battery bikes pay more.

How to choose

The honest math is about usage time. Rental wins if you ride a swap-model hard (two batteries, heavy swap use) or plan to keep the bike only a couple of years. Buying wins if you charge at home, ride moderate distances, and hold bikes long. Either way the swap fee is the cheap part — 9,000 VND is roughly the cost of a coffees-worth of electricity delivered instantly.

Whatever you choose, range expectations stay the same: up to 165 km on an Evo with two charged batteries under standard conditions, less at city pace.
