The Honda Blade and the Yamaha Exciter 155 VVA answer different questions. The Blade asks: what is the cheapest dependable way to cross Hanoi? The Exciter asks: how much fun can a 155 cc underbone be? Both manufacturers publish complete specifications (retrieved 23 September 2026).

The core difference

The Blade is a 109.1 cc air-cooled semi-automatic with a four-speed rotary gearbox - foot-shifted, no clutch lever. The Exciter 155 VVA is a 155 cc liquid-cooled four-valve engine with VVA, a six-speed gearbox and a manual clutch with Assist and Slipper technology. One is a tool; the other is a hobby.

Real-world fuel economy varies with speed, load and conditions.

What it means on the road

The Blade’s case is cost: half the purchase price, lighter, cheaper on fuel, and nothing to learn - you twist and shift. The Exciter’s case is everything else: more than double the power, six gears, front and rear disc brakes (ABS on limited versions), tubeless tyres and a clutch that makes every ride an event.

The Blade Sport version’s front disc brake is the only performance nod in the range. The Exciter is simply a different category of machine.

Which one for you?

If riding is a chore, the Blade wins outright. If riding is the point - weekend rides, longer trips, the satisfaction of a manual gearbox - the Exciter 155 is the cheapest full sport underbone experience in Yamaha’s Vietnamese line-up, and its 2.07 L/100 km claim keeps running costs sane for the performance on offer.
