Moving from a semi-automatic to a manual-clutch bike (xe con tay) is the biggest step in Vietnamese riding. Only three current manual bikes have fully verified manufacturer data (retrieved 23 September 2026) - here is how they rank for a first-time clutch rider.

Why the Exciter is the easiest clutch bike

The Exciter’s Assist and Slipper clutch is the beginner’s unfair advantage: assist makes the lever lighter to pull, and the slipper function smooths clumsy downshifts - exactly the two mistakes new clutch riders make. It is also the lightest of the three (123 kg wet) and the cheapest to run at a claimed 2.07 L/100 km.

Why the Winner R is the value choice

The cheapest entry into the manual class, with the friendliest power delivery of the three and a 795 mm seat. Its claimed 2.59 L/100 km (UDC method) reflects the sporty state of tune.

Why the CBR150R is the hardest first bike

15 kg heavier, full fairing to repair, and gearing aimed at highway speeds. Superb second manual bike - demanding first one.

The honest alternative

If your riding is still 90 percent city commuting, question whether you need a manual at all - our semi-automatic vs manual guide walks through the trade-offs, and most Hanoi riders never look back from a rotary gearbox.
