VinFast’s licence-free corner holds two machines that look like different categories and, legally, are: the Amio is a pedal-assist runabout in the bicycle-adjacent class; the Evo Lite is a scooter engineered under the 50 km/h moped cap. Choosing between them is really choosing which kind of licence-free you want to be. All figures are official launch data.
Head to head
| Evo Lite | Amio | |
|---|---|---|
| Form | scooter (Evo platform, speed-limited) | pedal-assist scooter |
| Motor | (platform; not published for the Lite) | 800 W |
| Top speed | below 50 km/h (deliberately limited) | 30 km/h |
| Battery | 2 × 1.5 kWh removable LFP | 1.024 kWh LFP |
| Claimed range | (not published for the Lite) | up to 65 km |
| Licence | none — moped class, rider 16+ | none — pedal-assist class |
| Charging | swap, home, public chargers | home charge (single small pack) |
Fields the launch data does not publish for the Lite (motor power, range) are left empty rather than estimated — this comparison does not guess.
What the difference means on the road
The Amio is honest about being slow: 30 km/h, a single small pack, and a form factor that works for the shortest utility trips — the school run, the market, the last kilometre. The Evo Lite keeps the full scooter experience — step-through body, two-pack platform, swap access — and simply refuses to exceed the moped cap, making it the better fit on roads where 50 km/h is normal flow.
The battery structures also differ in kind: the Lite inherits the swap ecosystem (9,000 VND per battery per swap; rentals 175,000–300,000 VND monthly), so range is a network question; the Amio’s single pack is a home-charge reality, and 65 km claimed covers its natural duty easily.
Who should pick which
- Amio: lightest legal footprint, shortest trips, riders (and families) who want the simplest possible machine. Review.
- Evo Lite: full scooter ergonomics with an unambiguous position under the cap; better for multi-trip days and longer errands. Review.
Both sit licence-free, but they are licence-free in different legal classes — the speed-classes guide explains the boundaries. Rental availability of either: contact us to confirm current availability.
