The underseat bay is the most-used feature of any Vietnamese scooter - it decides whether your helmet, groceries and laptop ride inside the bike or on your lap. This comparison uses only manufacturer-published capacities (retrieved 23 September 2026); for how to pack and organise the space you have, see our underseat storage guide - this page is about how much space each model gives you.
Verified capacities
| Model | Capacity | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Honda Lead 125 | 37 L | Two full-face helmets - the cargo benchmark |
| Yamaha Grande | 27 L, lit bay | Full-face helmet plus a bag, with interior light |
| Yamaha FreeGo 125 | 25 L | One full-face helmet plus room |
| Honda Air Blade 125 | 23.2 L | Two half-helmets (Honda’s own wording) |
| Yamaha Janus 125 | 15.3 L | One half-helmet or a rain jacket |
What the numbers hide
- Helmet shapes matter: a 37-litre bay takes two full-face helmets; a 15-litre bay takes one open-face. If you ride with a full-face helmet (our helmet guide explains why many riders do), only the larger bays swallow it.
- Passengers: riding two-up means two helmets to stow - our passenger helmet guide covers the second-helmet problem.
- Shape beats litres: a long flat bay takes a laptop bag a “bigger” round bay cannot.
Choosing by cargo
Daily commuters carrying a helmet and a bag need 23 litres or more. Delivery and shopping-heavy riders should start at the Lead’s 37. Style-first riders accept less - the Grande splits the difference with a lit bay. Renters: contact us to confirm current availability of any model; if your rental’s bay is small, a dry bag or tail bag solves the overflow.
