Headlight technology decides how well unlit rural roads and rainy Hanoi nights actually work. Here is the LED-versus-halogen question as it applies to Vietnamese-market scooters, with the verified fitments from manufacturer pages (retrieved 23 September 2026).
The verified LED fitments
Full LED lighting is published for the Honda Vario 125 and Honda SH Mode 125; LED headlights are published for the Yamaha FreeGo 125 and Grande. Most budget and mid models in our verified database continue with halogen or do not state the fitment - omitted here rather than assumed.
What LED does better
LED headlamps draw less electrical power, last far longer (no filament to fail), and their whiter light renders signs and road edges more clearly at night. For unlit roads this is a genuine safety margin - and it pairs with correct aim, which our headlight aim guide covers, because a bright light aimed badly is worse than a modest one aimed well.
What halogen still does well
Halogen light penetrates rain and fog better than many LED patterns - the warmer, wider beam scatters less in water droplets, which matters in a four-month wet season. Halogen bulbs are also cheap and replaceable almost anywhere in Vietnam; our bulb replacement guide covers the process, and our night-riding safety guide covers the technique.
Cautions with conversions
Swapping halogen for aftermarket LED bulbs is common but risky: beam patterns designed for a halogen reflector scatter and blind oncoming traffic, and legality varies - our aftermarket LED guide covers the issues. Manufacturer-fitted LED, as on the verified models above, is designed as a system.
