These are the two classic semi-automatic classes of Vietnamese motorbike rental counters - including ours, where both the Honda Wave and Yamaha Sirius are price-published at 150,000 VND per day. If you are choosing between them for a Hanoi stay, here is what the manufacturers actually publish (all figures retrieved 23 September 2026).
Engines and gearboxes
Wave Alpha: 109.2 cc, 6.12 kW at 7,500 rpm, 8.44 Nm at 5,500 rpm, four-speed rotary, electric start. Sirius: 110.3 cc SOHC, 5.9 kW at 8,000 rpm, 9.0 Nm at 5,000 rpm, four-speed rotary with a wet centrifugal clutch. Both are clutch-lever-free semi-automatics - the easiest gearbox format for a first-time rider in Vietnam traffic, and our semi-automatic versus scooter guide explains the trade-offs against a twist-and-go.
Economy and weight
Wave Alpha: 1.72 L/100 km, 3.7 L tank, 96 kg. Sirius: 2.08 L/100 km, 4.2 L tank, 100 kg wet. The Wave Alpha is the lighter, thriftier machine; the Sirius carries a slightly bigger tank and more low-rev torque feel.
Size and riding position
Wave Alpha: 1,913 x 689 x 1,076 mm, 770 mm seat, 134 mm clearance. Sirius: 1,890 x 665 x 1,035 mm - shorter and much narrower, which shows up when parking in packed alleys and filtering between trucks. Both use 17-inch wheels with the same tyre sizes (70/90-17 front, 80/90-17 rear).
Which should you rent?
For a first week in Hanoi they are interchangeable: light, simple, cheap to run and easy to fix anywhere. Narrowness slightly favours the Sirius in the Old Quarter; the lower seat and lighter weight slightly favour smaller riders on the Wave Alpha.
