Open the seat of a Vietnamese electric motorbike and the pack underneath comes in two main flavours. Which one it is shapes how far you ride, how long it lasts and how it should be treated.
LFP: the swap-network standard
VinFast’s electric scooters — Evo, Feliz II, Viper and the pedal-assist Amio — all run lithium iron phosphate (LFP) packs, in removable 1.5 kWh units on the scooters and a 1.024 kWh pack on the Amio, according to the official launch release. LFP trades some energy density for durability and thermal stability, which is a sensible match for a battery-swap network: packs live hard lives, and chemistry that tolerates frequent cycling and is less prone to thermal runaway suits the model. VinFast publishes battery-life economics around rental (175,000–300,000 VND per month) rather than a single pack-life number.
Conventional lithium-ion: the distance machines
Dat Bike’s Weaver 200 carries a 72 V 68 Ah lithium-ion pack, and the official product page stakes a battery life claim of 150,000 km — framed as 15 years of use — with a 3-year battery warranty. Higher energy density is the point: 200 km of claimed range at 35 km/h from a machine weighing 120 kg needs every watt-hour the chemistry can hold.
What the chemistry difference means day to day
| Behaviour | LFP (VinFast class) | Li-ion high-density (Dat Bike class) |
|---|---|---|
| Energy per kilogram | Lower | Higher |
| Cycle tolerance | Strong | Good, with a long published life claim on Weaver 200 |
| Thermal stability | Favourable | Managed by the battery management system |
| Typical use pattern | Swap packs at V-Green cabinets | Charge at home or Dat Charge stations |
The practical rules either way
Chemistry does not change the care basics: avoid storing packs flat-empty for long breaks, keep them out of direct sun, charge with the supplied charger, and check the battery-health signals before buying used. Our battery lifespan and health-check guides cover the routines in detail. Capacity — the kilowatt-hours that turn chemistry into range — is explained in the next article in this series.
