Nothing builds a new rider’s confidence faster than a light bike, and nothing destroys it faster than a heavy one wobbling at a red light. This guide ranks the scooters we have verified weights for, from official Honda and Yamaha Vietnam pages (retrieved 23 September 2026, preserved in our model database). Where a manufacturer does not publish a weight, the model is absent - never estimated.

Why weight matters more than power for beginners
In Vietnamese traffic you rarely use full power, but you always use the weight: paddalling through jams, walking the bike into tight parking, catching it on loose gravel, holding it at lights on a slope. A 96-100 kg scooter is forgiving of every one of those moments; a 130 kg+ machine punishes hesitation. Our slow-speed control guide covers the techniques regardless of what you ride.
Best first bikes from this table
- Absolute easiest: Gear 125 Hybrid (96 kg, 750 mm seat, 1.7 L/100 km) and Janus 125 (97 kg).
- Easiest with real storage: Latte 125 (100 kg, 37L bay).
- The classic first bike: Honda Vision (97 kg, 16-inch front wheel) - Vietnam’s default learner scooter and a price-published rental model (200,000 VND/day; 800,000-1,000,000 VND/week; 1,800,000-2,000,000 VND/month).
Weight versus stability - the honest trade-off
Light bikes are easier to manage and more nervous on bad surfaces; heavy bikes are calmer at speed and harder at parking. The Vision’s 16-inch front wheel is the smart compromise - light bike, big wheel - which our 16-inch wheel guide explains.
Renting light
Ask for the light models when you rent - it is the single biggest factor in a first week of riding in Hanoi. Contact us to confirm current availability, then run the rental inspection checklist before setting off.
