The Wave Alpha is the least expensive machine on Honda Vietnam’s list — 18,841,091 VND on the current page — and it is the bike most Vietnamese families actually own. For visitors, it is also the classic semi-auto rental: simple, light and everywhere. Figures below are from Honda Vietnam’s official page (recorded in our model database, retrieved 2026-09-23).

The machine

A 109.2 cc air-cooled single, 6.12 kW at 7,500 rpm and 8.44 Nm at 5,500 rpm, four-speed rotary gearbox with centrifugal clutch and electric start, 3.7-litre tank, Honda’s claimed 1.72 L/100 km economy, a low 770 mm seat, 96 kg kerb, 70/90-17 front and 80/90-17 rear tyres. Honda publishes no fuel-system detail on the retrieved page, so we make no injection or carburettor claim for it.

How it rides

  • Light and low: at 96 kg with a 770 mm seat, it flatters beginners and small riders alike; flat feet at stops, easy paddling through markets, and a genuinely small turning circle.
  • Gearing: the four speeds are widely spaced for economy. Second covers an enormous city speed range; you will upshift early and downshift late, which is the efficient pattern anyway.
  • Pace: 6.12 kW moves two people in traffic fine and cruises one rider at city speeds all day. It is not a bike for ring-road pace with a passenger.
  • Economy and range: the claimed 1.72 L/100 km and 3.7-litre tank give a useful theoretical range well past 200 km; real-world figures vary with load and speed. Fuel costs are close to nothing.

Why it is the default

Parts availability in Vietnam is total — every street mechanic stocks Wave-class parts — and the engine’s simplicity (Honda lists 0.8 L oil at drain) keeps servicing cheap. As a first bike to learn the semi-auto pattern on, nothing is more forgiving: the light clutch, low seat and slow-revving character absorb beginner mistakes.

Renting one

The Wave class is one of our price-published rental categories: 150,000 VND per day for a Honda Wave. As always, contact us to confirm current availability for your dates. The semi-auto renting guide covers what to expect, and the rental checklist covers what to inspect before you ride off — on this bike more than any exotic, the pre-ride two-minute check is worth doing because the machines see daily service.
