Electric motorbikes are attractive to thieves for one reason: the most valuable part unplugs. Security for an electric is partly bike security and partly battery security.

What modern electrics give you built-in

The connected features are genuinely useful here. VinFast’s Viper, for instance, carries a Smart Key system with vehicle tracking and remote vehicle-finding, plus remote on/off control for anti-theft support. Dat Bike’s app adds smart unlock and remote software features. These raise the difficulty of a silent theft — but they are layers, not substitutes for physical locks.

The physical layer still matters

  • A disc lock or chain at every stop. Electronic deterrence can be relayed around; a hardened lock cannot be texted away. Our lock guide covers the trade-offs.
  • Steering lock engaged — the base layer every bike already has; use it.
  • Battery out of sight, or out of the bike. Removable packs should come with you into buildings where parking is unattended. On swap-models, an empty battery bay is the cheapest security there is.
  • Park in monitored spots. Building basements, attended lots and camera-covered rows beat convenience parking. Overnight rules apply to every bike type.

Charging security

A bike charging in a corridor with its charger cable visible is advertising both its value and its location. Charge in garages or behind locked doors, and never run cables across shared walkways — it flags the bike and trips people.

If the worst happens

Report with the bike’s serial and the app-account details; connected bikes are trackable while powered. For renters: the security routine you keep for a rental protects your deposit too — see our rental security guide.
